An Overview of Microblading Treatments for Women in Perth
Microblading has been a growing beauty trend due to its amazing benefit of giving up the daily pencil and beautifying those over-plucked 90’s brows while still maintaining a very natural appearance. The semi-permanent secret to amazing eyebrows and everything you need to know.
Firstly, what is microblading?
Microblading is a totally bespoke treatment that creates ‘hair-like strokes in the eyebrows, that blend with existing brow hair. An extremely fine needle is used to implant medical-grade pigment under the skin, so each stroke resembles realistic-looking hair.
The little stroke is done with a tiny row of micro-needles (about 10–12) that delicately scratch the epidermis of the skin. The treatment is not very deep and is performed on the outer layer of the skin, the epidermis.
How is microblading different from body tattooing?
The main reason is the depth of the treatment. Microblading is a very superficial treatment, meaning the pigment will exfoliate away over time. Body tattooing goes deeper into the skin (to the dermis), and once the pigment is implanted there, it’s there for life. Body tattooing is performed with an electric machine – so expect lots of buzzing noises. However, microblading is done with a little tool, so you really can’t hear anything at all other than a ‘scratch’.
Can you have a reaction to microblading?
Microblading is used as an alternative for those with cosmetic make-up allergies or allergies to brow tinting products, as the ingredients are completely different and a great alternative for skin sensitivities.
Although it can happen, it is extremely rare. The pigments used are medical grade and have been highly tested to be safe for use on the skin.
How much does microblading cost?
This depends on the artist you choose and the level of their experience. Pricing starts at $800. This includes the 6-week touch-up visit.
Does microblading hurt?
You are numbed before and during the process, the technique feels similar to a mild scratch and can sometimes be felt; however, you will get more and more numb as the treatment progresses. Most clients say that plucking hurts more.
What do you need to look for when choosing a microblading artist?
Before and after photos are the best way to see each artist's brow style. Look for styles that you would like on your face. Take your time.
Are all microblading artists trained the same?
In short, no, this is the biggest thing to look out for. You want to ensure that your artist is highly reputable in the industry and has great training. Some artists will use cheap products and tools, and not follow basic sterilisation processes (yuck!) This is where reactions and cross-contamination can occur. Be very careful and do your research.
How do I know what shape to go for? How do I choose?
Leave this up to your artist, they will help! It’s a great idea to go in on the day with your usual ‘day’ makeup, so they can assess your style and help design a shape that will suit your individual face shape.
The shape is drawn on with a pencil first so you can see the design well before your treatment starts. This can take some time to ensure you love your brow shape. You can also take some photos of the shapes and styles you like for consideration.
Will the microblading colour be black?
Blacks are never used on the eyebrows, it is far too harsh for the face. The pigments are custom blended to suit your natural brow colour so that it heals to an exact match.
How long does Microblading last?
Microblading is semi-permanent, so it will require a refresh every 1-3 years. This is also dependent on your skin type. Oily skins need to be topped up more frequently.
Microblading healing?
It is very important to know and understand that brows will be up to 40% darker in shade for the first 7–10 days during the healing process. After the healing stages, the colour settles and looks very natural.
